A significant date for tourists: the opening of the visa-free regime between Armenia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is scheduled for February 1, 2024. This step was the result of long negotiations and efforts aimed at deepening mutual understanding and cultural exchange between the two countries.
Armenian citizens will be able to enjoy trips to the UAE for tourist purposes, exempt from the need for pre-registration of a visa from February 1, 2024. This important step opens up new opportunities for a variety of tourist trips, expanding the boundaries for cultural enrichment and mutual understanding.
The visa-free regime agreement was signed in September 2023 during the official visit of the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, Ararat Mirzoyan, to the United Arab Emirates. This historic moment was an important step in strengthening diplomatic relations and establishing partnership between Armenia and the UAE.
The National Assembly of Armenia ratified the agreement in December 2023, which was the last stage before the introduction of a visa-free regime. According to the terms of the agreement, from February 1, 2024, Armenian citizens will be able to stay in the UAE without an entry visa for 90 days for 180 days. This provides flexibility for tourist trips and allows guests from Armenia to fully enjoy the beauty and hospitality of the UAE.
The process of establishing a visa-free regime began in Armenia in 2017, when the country's government expressed interest in simplifying visa rules with the UAE. In January 2023, a proposal to conclude an agreement on the abolition of the visa regime was approved. This step was taken in order to stimulate tourism, exchange cultural experiences and deepen ties between the countries.
October 2023 was a time of important change for tourists from the UAE, as Armenia introduced a visa-free regime for them, allowing them to stay on its territory for up to 180 days. In addition, visa rules have been simplified for foreign citizens with UAE resident visas. This has opened the doors to more than 50 countries around the world, including the Emirates, Egypt, India, Iraq, Morocco, the Philippines and Saudi Arabia, allowing them to obtain entry permits at the Armenian border if they have documents confirming UAE residency.
The new visa rules will not only facilitate tourist trips, but also stimulate cultural exchange between Armenia and the UAE. Armenia presents unique attractions, including grape resorts in the Ararat Valley, Lake Sevan and historical monuments. Winter active sports on the snow-capped peaks of the Armenian Highlands invite tourists to exciting adventures.
Armenia is proud of its rich culture, ancient traditions and unique culinary heritage. Emiratis have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of Armenian culture, visit ancient monasteries, churches and historical sites, appreciate the beauty of snow-covered landscapes and engage in winter sports.
A new stage in the tourism relations between Armenia and the UAE marks the desire to deepen mutual understanding, create a favorable atmosphere for tourists and expand horizons for the exchange of cultural experiences. Visa–free travel is not only a convenience for travelers, but also an opportunity for both countries to meet in a spirit of mutual respect and friendship.
