The Cave of Wonders was opened to the public in 2003, after the architect of the project, Marcos Barinos, turned the natural grotto into a fabulous tourist attraction. Playgrounds, bridges and steps were built here, and a souvenir shop and cafe were built next to the cave. For his work, Barinos received the gold medal of the Miami Architecture Biennale.
The cave consists of several halls of various sizes, which contain a large number of stalactites, stalagmites, and underground rivers flow. The cave is equipped with motion sensors. As soon as you approach the next hall, colorful spotlights turn on, turning the cave into an incredibly beautiful installation.
The cave has preserved rock carvings of the aborigines of the Dominican Republic – the Taino tribe, made 500-800 years ago.
