The Museum of Numismatics and Philately in Santo Domingo is located in the House of Five Medallions. It consists of three expositions: a Coin room, where collections of banknotes, coins and medals are exhibited; a Philatelic room with a collection of stamps issued in the Dominican Republic between 1865 and 1999; an exhibition hall provided for temporary exhibitions.
In the numismatics hall, you can trace the evolution of coins, starting from the time of natural exchange, to modern credit cards. The collection includes the very first coins minted in the Dominican Republic in 1505, foreign coins and banknotes, commemorative coins and medals.
The philatelic collection is divided into topics: knowledge, entertainment, history, geography, fauna, flora, science, art, media, etc.
In the third hall, temporary exhibitions are held on environmental issues, mining and production of metals, methods of production of coins and banknotes.
