In the United Arab Emirates, a new destination is becoming especially popular among travelers – sleep tourism. This type of tourism, focused on improving the quality of sleep and good rest, attracts the attention of modern tourists.
A survey conducted by OnePoll and published by the global travel website Skyscanner reveals interesting sleep trends among UAE residents. According to the survey, 80% of respondents have become more attentive to the quality of sleep, and this has happened in just a few years. The survey was conducted in August 2023 among 1,000 people from the UAE.
It is striking that 46% of travelers from the UAE do not spend the recommended 7-8 hours of sleep, and 59% believe that they will need drugs to restore sleep in the future. These figures highlight the growing awareness of the importance of sleep care and its impact on overall well-being.
Skyscanner also provides interesting data on popular destinations for sleep tourism. Hoi An in Vietnam, Santorini and Rome are becoming the most desirable places for those who seek a full and relaxing sleep. These destinations stand out among other leisure options such as winter sports and museum visits.
Experts also record an impressive increase in interest in sleep tourism in 2023 – by 1110%. This increase, in their opinion, is associated with the negative consequences of the pandemic, including sleep disorders. Thus, sleep tourism is becoming not only a fashion trend, but also a way to cope with the effects of stress and uncertainty.
The fear of turning off smartphones on trips, known as FOSO, is also being analyzed in the survey. It turns out that about 49% of UAE residents experience this fear, it is especially difficult to distract from smartphone screens when traveling. Medical experts are calling for mindfulness, suggesting regular breaks from devices and devoting time to reading, exercise or just relaxing in nature.
Sleep tourism is becoming not only an important destination for travelers, but also causes us to think about how modern technologies affect our well-being. Medical recommendations also include attention to personal relationships, creating boundaries between work and personal life, as well as hobby activities and meditation.
Thus, sleep tourism in the UAE is becoming not just a way to relax, but also a solution to the problem faced by many – a lack of quality sleep. This trend is gaining popularity among travelers, offering them a unique experience and health care.
