The Greek Consumer Market is Facing Increasing Inflation in the Food Sector
Inflation continues to increase in Greece, especially noticeable in the food sector. According to the latest data, inflation in this sector reached 9.9% last month, which causes serious concerns among citizens and poses difficult tasks for the government.
In October, there was a sharp jump of almost 2 points, raising the overall price growth index to 3.4%. This growth is very different from the previous month, when the index was 1.6%. Greece is facing price increases in a number of key categories of goods and services.
In the last month alone, there has been a significant rise in prices for products such as olive oil (+14.1%), heating fuel (+12.7%), fresh fruit (+8%) and the cost of plane tickets (+4.2%). This trend has continued over the past year, with an increase in prices for butter (+26.5%), fruit (+20.5%), water, soft drinks, juices (+14.3%), pharmaceutical products (+11.8%), cinema and theater tickets (+10.2%), meat (+8.3%), sugar – chocolates (+8.2%), health insurance premiums (+5.7%) and restaurants (+5.3%).
This alarming trend is causing unrest among the population, as the cost of living continues to rise, affecting key aspects of the household economy. The Greek Government is being urged to take urgent measures to mitigate the negative effects of rising prices and provide support to those facing financial difficulties. While the country remains a popular tourist destination, it is important to closely monitor the current situation and adapt budgets in accordance with changes in the market.
