The construction of the "blue" metro line in Dubai will start in 2024
On February 21, 2024, a new milestone project takes off in Dubai: the construction of the "blue" metro line will begin this year. This was reported by representatives of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority. The launch of the 30-kilometer line is planned by 2029, with a total project cost of 18 billion dirhams (4.9 billion US dollars).
This innovative branch line will be partially underground at a depth of 70 meters, providing access to public transport for one million residents of various districts of Dubai. These areas include Dubai Creek Harbour, Festival City, International City, Rashidiya, Warqa, Mirdif, Silicon Oasis, Academic City, and others.
The Blue line will include nine above-ground and five underground stations, connecting Dubai International Airport with nine key areas of the city. Among them are Mirdif, Al Warqa, International City 1 and 2, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Academic City, Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, Dubai Creek Harbour and Dubai Festival City.
It is expected that by 2030 the blue line will serve about 200 thousand passengers daily, and by 2040 this figure will increase to 320 thousand. Of particular interest is the fact that the line will be used by about 50 thousand university students of Akademgorodok.
It is planned to integrate the "blue" branch with the existing "red" and "green" ones. The Creek, Centrepoint and International City stations will serve as transfer hubs, as well as a new station at Dubai Creek Harbour. The largest of them will be International City – its area will be an impressive 44 thousand square meters.
When completed in 2029, the total length of the Dubai Metro lines will increase to 131 kilometers, serving 78 stations and 168 unmanned trains. The completion of this ambitious project will be timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro.
