The Greek authorities have made a revolutionary decision aimed at solving the problem of labor shortage in the country. The Greek Ministry of Migration has submitted an innovative amendment to the bill, which means the legalization of tens of thousands of illegal migrants. This important step is aimed not only at improving the economic situation in the country, but also at creating opportunities for closer socio-cultural integration.

An amendment to the bill entitled "Occupational Insurance Reform" is under consideration by the relevant parliamentary committee. It concerns approximately 30,000 illegal migrants from countries outside the European Union. These people, despite the fact that they moved to Greece illegally, have been living and employed in the country for several years.

According to the proposed amendment, the following categories of people can receive a three-year residence permit and a work permit:

Persons who have a job offer from an employer in Greece in the status of a dependent employee or providing work services.
People who lived in Greece before November 30, 2023 without a residence permit.
Those who continue to reside in the country after the specified date.
Persons who have lived for at least three years of continuous residence in Greece.
However, in order to apply for this permit, it is necessary to take into account that the deadline for submitting an application is set for December 31, 2024. This permit is issued once and is valid for three years. Holders of such a permit also have the right to apply for another type of residence permit, provided that all requirements are met.

It should be noted that in order to change the permit, the applicant must have good health and tax status. An interesting point is that if the applicant's spouse or children were in Greece no later than November 30, 2023, they will also be granted a residence permit.

This initiative provides additional opportunities and benefits for illegal migrants, opening up new prospects for them in Greece. The country, in turn, gets a chance to solve the problem of the shortage of skilled labor and contribute to the creation of an open and inclusive society.

This step by the Greek authorities is intended not only to alleviate the existing situation, but also to promote more harmonious social interaction in the future. Greece, with its rich history and culture, is becoming open to all who seek to contribute to the prosperity of this amazing country.

Thus, the reforms in the field of migration in Greece reflect the desire to create equal opportunities for all by supporting and developing their economy. This important step will have long-term positive consequences for the country and its new citizens.
